Based in the wonderful English Buckinghamshire countryside of the Chiltern Hills, my work centres around capturing mood and emotion using pastel or acrylic often in monotone, where I feel colour gets in the way of what’s hidden in texture and light. I have a signature ‘white on black’ style with my pastel work, although I do enjoy rough pastel in colour. My acrylic style is also in monotone, where I largely use my distinctive ‘subtractive’ technique to create a large proportion of the picture, on a rough background. This way I get a push and pull of a tight and yet loose picture together, and often a feeling of the backdrop coming through. A keen photographer, I am inspired by all aspects of what I see and frame in order to bring new and exciting, fresh angles to my art.
