Keith DuQuette

artist profile

My current paintings are created with acrylic gouache on gessoed bookbinders board. The works begin with a simple pencil-drawn grid. The grid serves as an underlying substructure where I can explore the basic visual elements of color, quantity, and placement. It is within my self-imposed restrictions that a world opens up for a seemingly endless exploration of the relationship between color and shapes. In this series, I explore symmetry and asymmetry, flatness, and the illusion of space, shape interconnection and isolation, and stillness and motion. The goals are to engage the viewer’s eye to travel in and around the paintings and, for me, find my own inner peace and joy in creating these painted puzzles.
